Fairdale’s Diesel Tech Pathway Launches Students Into the Workforce

On May 9, 2025, the Fairdale community gathered for the annual Diesel Tech Celebration—a powerful reminder of the vital role skilled trades play in shaping bright futures for students and supporting the region’s workforce. The event brought together students, educators, industry partners, and families to honor achievements in diesel technology, recognize certifications and co-op signings, and spotlight the transformational impact of hands-on learning.

Honoring Achievement and Ambition

The celebration began with warm welcomes from key partners: Barry Clyde of Public Works, Brittany Maracz of Boyd CAT, Deana Mann of Ascendance/International, and Duan Garner from The CDL School. Their presence underscored the deep connections between the Academies and industry leaders, who provide invaluable mentorship, training, and career opportunities for students.

As the event moved into signings and recognitions, the spotlight shone brightly on students whose dedication and hard work have set them on a path to success:

  • Internal Co-op placements for Enoch Falu, Miguel Hinojosa Cervantes, and Breauna Lawson demonstrate the value of real-world experience gained while still in high school.

  • ASE Certifications earned by Kaine Curry, Kristian Prather, and Logan Rodgers mark a significant milestone, validating their technical skills and readiness for the workforce.

  • CDL Scholarships awarded to Kyll Bual, Xavier Burks, Cristian Lopez Cantor, Jacob McCubbins, Isael Ovalle Garcia, and Cameron Williams open doors to lucrative careers in commercial driving—a field in high demand.

  • External Co-op signings highlight the diverse opportunities available: Dallas Gatewood is launching his own business, while Logan Rodgers, Jay Olguin Barojas, Waylon Tingle, and Adrion Woods have secured positions with leading companies like Ascendance, Boyd CAT, and Public Works.

The Importance of Skilled Trades in the Academies

Events like the Diesel Tech Celebration highlight the critical importance of skilled trades within the Academies of Louisville. These pathways offer students more than just technical training—they provide a launchpad for lifelong careers, personal growth, and economic mobility.

Through partnerships with industry leaders, students gain access to:

  • Hands-on learning that bridges classroom knowledge with real-world application.

  • Certifications and credentials that are recognized and valued by employers.

  • Work-based learning experiences such as co-ops and internships that build confidence and professional networks.

  • Opportunities for entrepreneurship and leadership, as seen with students like Dallas Gatewood.

The skilled trades are essential to the region’s economic vitality, addressing workforce shortages and supporting infrastructure, transportation, and logistics. By investing in these pathways, the Academies of Louisville ensure that students are not only college and career ready, but also equipped to make meaningful contributions to their communities.

Building a Brighter Future

The Diesel Tech Celebration is a testament to what’s possible when education and industry work hand in hand. As students transition from classroom to career, they carry with them the skills, confidence, and connections needed to thrive in the modern workforce.

Looking ahead, the Academies of Louisville remain committed to expanding opportunities in skilled trades, fostering partnerships, and inspiring the next generation of innovators and leaders. The future is bright for these talented students—and for the communities they will serve.
