Avery Kleier’s Path to Teaching and Creativity at Fairdale
Avery Kleier’s path to the front of the classroom began long before she set foot in Fairdale High School. Growing up in a family of educators, with her mother teaching ECE at Cane Run Elementary and several sisters and an aunt also in the profession, teaching was always a familiar world. “I love working with kids,” Avery says, a sentiment that has shaped her high school years and her plans for the future.
A Family Tradition, a Personal Calling
Avery attended Coral Ridge and Farnsley Middle School before choosing Fairdale over her residential school, PRP. The decision was intentional: she wanted to immerse herself in Fairdale’s teaching and learning pathway, a program that offers hands-on experience in local classrooms. “The opportunities and pathways here are incredible,” Avery shares. “I’ve been able to intern at schools as a high school student and take dual credit classes.”
Her experiences have been wide-ranging. She interned at Lassiter Middle, worked in elementary and ECE settings, and this semester spends two days a week in a fifth-grade class at Fairdale Elementary. These experiences have only deepened her love for teaching, especially helping students learn to read and write.
Books have played a significant role in shaping Avery’s perspective. “Educated” by Tara Westover gave her a new appreciation for the power of education, while her love of romance, thrillers, and mysteries keeps her imagination active.

Academic Excellence and Creative Expression
Avery’s commitment to her education is evident. She is part of the challenging Cambridge program at Fairdale High and has consistently put her schoolwork first. She’s also been deeply involved in school life: cheerleading, Educators Rising, National Honor Society, Beta Club, and yearbook. “I’ve been in everything,” she laughs, crediting her teachers–especially Ms. Concepcion, Ms. Garrett, and Ms. Adams–for their support and inspiration.
Recently, Avery’s dedication was recognized in a significant way: she won first place in the highly competitive Interactive Bulletin Board category at the Educators Rising state competition. Her project drew crowds all day, with students, teachers, and judges eager to see her work.
Yearbook has been a special outlet for Avery, allowing her to exercise her creativity and express herself. Her dream job, she says, would combine her love of writing and photography–perhaps even writing her own book one day.
Bellarmine Bound
This fall, Avery will attend Bellarmine University on a full-ride scholarship. She’s considering majoring in English with a possible shift to journalism or elementary education. She’s already toured Bellarmine’s teaching program and is drawn to the smaller class sizes and supportive environment. Ultimately, she hopes to teach high school English, but she’s open to wherever her passion for helping students takes her.
Building Community and Opportunity
Fairdale High School, nestled in the Fairdale community of Louisville, is known for its strong magnet programs and commitment to preparing students for life beyond graduation. Avery is a testament to what’s possible when a student finds the right environment and support. “There’s never been a better time to be a Bulldog,” she says, echoing the school’s spirit of innovation and opportunity.
Avery Kleier’s journey is just beginning, but her impact on her school and community is already clear. With a passion for teaching, a love of learning, and a creative spark, she’s ready to inspire the next generation–just as Fairdale has inspired her.
