Soaring Beyond the Classroom: How a Public-Private Partnership Is Redefining Education at the Academy at Shawnee✈️
In a city defined by its relationship to the skies, from the global logistics hub at UPS to the storied history of Bowman Field, a new educational model is taking flight. The Academy at Shawnee has partnered with Flight Club 502, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to create an innovative, immersive learning environment that takes place not in a traditional classroom, but in a hangar at Bowman Field. This unique collaboration is a bold attempt to address systemic academic challenges by offering 19 JCPS students a compelling, high-value career pathway directly linked to a Private Pilot's License.
A Strong Foundation for the Future: Why Freshman Academy Matters
Rather than enrolling students in a career-themed academy upon entering high school, the Academies of Louisville recognized the importance of a strong, foundational freshman year. West Louisville Students Brew Up Innovative Marketing Strategies for Local Coffee Shop
West Louisville High School students put their marketing skills to the test on February 21, 2025, at AMPED's Russell Technology Business Incubator (RTBI), presenting dynamic campaigns for Blak Koffee, a community-focused coffee shop born from AMPED's very own incubator program. The challenge, a three-week deep dive into marketing strategy, tasked students from Central and Shawnee High Schools with attracting a younger clientele while honoring Blak Koffee's core values: community, sustainability, and a celebration of local artistry.
Keyshawn Stoner's Academic Recovery Comeback at Shawnee
Keyshawn Stoner's journey at the Academy at Shawnee began with significant challenges. His freshman year was, as he describes it, a "mess." A car accident resulted in a leg injury, impacting his mobility and school attendance. Coupled with academic struggles, Keyshawn found himself navigating a difficult period, earning Cs and Ds. But the support and guidance he found at Shawnee led to what he and his friends call his “Academic Recovery Comeback.”
