In a school with deep history and ambitious plans for the future, Dr. Rachelle Wood has become a steady and passionate leader. Now in her eighth year at The Academy @ Shawnee, six of them as the school’s Academy Coach, she’s helped guide Shawnee through growth, change, and a renewed sense of pride—always with a coach’s mindset and a servant-leader’s heart.

Avery Kleier’s Path to Teaching and Creativity at Fairdale
Avery Kleier’s path to the front of the classroom began long before she set foot in Fairdale High School. Growing up in a family of educators, with her mother teaching ECE at Cane Run Elementary and several sisters and an aunt also in the profession, teaching was always a familiar world. “I love working with kids,” Avery says, a sentiment that has shaped her high school years and her plans for the future.
Valley High School Mock Interviews Open Doors for Student Success
Valley High School is dedicated to preparing students for life beyond graduation, and one of the most important steps on that path is mastering the job interview. To help students build these essential skills, Valley hosted its Spring Mock Interviews on April 24, 2025. By partnering with local business professionals, the school offered both seniors and freshmen an authentic interview experience-giving them the chance to build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and learn what it takes to make a strong first impression in the working world.
PRP Freshmen Chart a Course for Success with Future Ready Journey
Pleasure Ridge Park (PRP) High School is redefining what it means to start high school strong. In partnership with the Black Male EDquity Network (BMEN), PRP launched “Future Ready: A Freshman Journey to Success,” a two-part event designed to equip nearly 450 freshmen with the tools, inspiration, and guidance needed to navigate their academic journey and prepare for life beyond the classroom.

In Louisville, a new generation of students is discovering the power and potential of skilled trades through the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) of Kentuckiana’s Pre-Apprenticeship Program. Designed in partnership with the Academies of Louisville, this initiative offers high school students a hands-on introduction to the electrical industry-connecting classroom learning with real-world applications and mentorship from industry professionals.

Shawnee Students Celebrated for Charter Communications Internships
The Academy @ Shawnee held a celebration event on May 5, 2025 to recognize four students whose selection for prestigious internships with Charter Communications represents the culmination of this mission. Not only are these the first students from Shawnee to be selected for this opportunity, but Shawnee is the only school to have four students chosen.

Highlighting the power of alumni connections to inspire future scientists, Atherton High School recently welcomed back Olivia Shain, a senior at Bellarmine University currently engaged in academic research relevant to their curriculum. She spoke to Mrs. Amanda Green’s 3rd-year biomedical sciences students.
In an insightful interview conducted by fellow Atherton student, Abbygail Milburn, Olivia shared her experiences in college and her research endeavors with the school's biomedical science students.
